French director Philippe Muyl is the prototype of independent film maker.At the age of 15 he started studying graphic art.Then worked as an artistic director for few years. His experience helped him in next position as head of advertising for magazine „ Pilote“.After one slide show presentation and the corporate film he decided the film making was for him.He set up production company with a friend.Then his partner moved to Brasil so he kept the flag flying alone.He watched  tons of movies and learn how the screenplays were constructed.Then he wrote half a dozen stories without any success and to make matters worse, didn´t know anyone in film business.Then he decided to adapt a Greek novel, received an advance box –office receipts grant and went for it. Film was released in January 1985 in five prints.It was a flop and he ended up  with 3 million francs dept  which took him  eight years to pay off.But he didn´t give up and made mny films which received international awards.In time of  our interview, he was in LA, fighting with his Chinese film for Academy Awars.

Young American director Scott Rosenbaum belongs to those artists who try to go their own way in quest to make a movie without being dependant on big studio. He wants to be independent and have everything under control. He hails from Long Island, attended Georgie Washington university, gained degree in journalism. After graduation he devoted his time to various projects, wrote screenplays, he learnt to direct, worked in financial sphere and helped improve centers for sick children. Famous director Gene Frankel took him under his wings and after his death he continued to work with Lenor de Koven. In 2002 he started to write script for film he showed also in Zlín Festival called „The Perfect age of rock´n´ roll“. He also colaborated with Oscar director Spike Lee.

 

Make up artist belongs to film as any other profession. Meeting someone who does that is always interesting and to meet someone who is personal make up artist for top Hollywood actors like Roberto De Niro, Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage or Uma Thurman is an extraordinary experience and obviously brings up lots of questions. We were lucky to have met Ilona Herman at the Zlín film festival, a make up artist of Czech origin living in the USA for 3 decades. Her views were first-hand Hollywood experience.

Tomy Wigand is German film director.He started with TV- Commericals and was awarded Bronze Lion at Cannes 1990.He worked mainly for TV.In 2000 his feature film, comedy  “Soccer rules” won many German accolades as did his following project “The Flying Classroom”.Up until today he makes movie almost every year.He has small production company with his partnert and they are collaborating with producers from LA.

 Jack Gold is British film and television director. He was born on 28. 6. 1930. After leaving University College London he began his career on BBC program „Tonight“. Later on he became a freelance filmmaker and also made dramas as a platform for his observations on social and political field. He made a debut with feature film in 1965 and it was called „My father knew Lloyd George“. But his most known films are „Aces high“, „The Medusa touch“ and „Escape from Sobibor“. He also directed versions of Shakespare classic „Mackbeth“ and „The Merchant of Venice“. He worked with such stars as Gene Hackman, Glenn Close, Anthony Hopkins, Malcolm McDowell, Richard Burton, Lino Ventura, Lee Remick or Elliot Gould.
